William, son and heir of William Hastings, 4th son of Henry Hastings [of Woodlands] begs discharge of Holnest Wood, Hants, which his grandfather conveyed in 1629 to his father and his heirs, reserving to himself an estate for life. He died, and the land is sequestered for his delinquency. He constantly adhered to Parliament, and is now a soldier in their service; 400l is charged on the said land for payment to his sisters. 17 Apr 1651. Order that his case be reported to Parliament, and that he pay 55l in 14 days, and give security for 220l more, in case Parliament think fit to impose a fine; otherwise the 55l is to be repaid, and he granted the rents etc. due from 29 Sept. to 25 March last, on security. 29 Apr 1651. He complains that being 100 miles away, and in the Parliament’s service, he cannot come up in 14 days, and begs a month. Noted, granted 6 weeks. May. Order that the rents of Holnest Wood lands, due to Wm. Hastings, be paid, as the sequestration is only to continue for life, and has ended with Henry Hastings’s death.

25 Jan 1655. Petition of Humph. Weld of East Lulworth, Co. Dorset, for himself, Clare his wife, and Mary Somerset, Katherine Eure, Thomas Talbot, infant son and heir of Frances, Countess of Shrewsbury, and Frances Fortescue, infant heir and daughter of Lady Margaret Fortescue. Thomas, late Lord Arundel, in 12 Charles settled Christchurch Manor, after the death of himself and Ann his wife, on their daughters, whereupon petitioners claim 5/6 thereof, and have had two law verdicts in their favour; but Lord Baltimore, who had 1/6 in right of his late wife, [Anne] daughter of Lord Arundel, disturbs them on a plea of lease of 2/3 of the manor sequestered for his recusancy. Beg a hearing, and orders for their tenants not to be disturbed meanshile. Referred to the County Commissioners, and Baltimore is to send in his proofs. 22 March. Order allowing the claim of Weld and his copetitioners, and discharging the estate from sequestration unless Baltimore within 8 days show cause to the contrary. With note that the notice was served, and Lord Baltimore said he had no cause to show.
